International Travel Award available for IAGLR 2020

Students outside US & Canada may be eligible for an International Travel Award to attend the IAGLR 2020 Conference on Great Lakes Research in Winnipeg, Manitoba this June.  Application deadline is March 1.

IAGLR20 Call for Abstracts - Extended Deadline!

We invite you to submit an abstract to present at the 63rd annual Conference on Great Lakes Research to be held June 8-12, 2020, at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg, Canada. Fifty sessions have been proposed to complement the theme 2020: Focusing on the Future. We welcome abstract submissions for both oral and poster presentations. Vermont Phosphorus Innovation Challenge Selects Finalists

Governor Phil Scott today announced over $1 million in state funding awarded to five groups for innovative technologies to separate and extract phosphorus from various waste streams as part of Stage Three of the Vermont Phosphorus Innovation Challenge (VPIC).

Call for Proposals - Great Lakes Fishery Commission

Interested in organizing a scientific session or workshop for IAGLR 2020 in Winnipeg, Canada? The Call for Sessions & Workshops is now open. Researchers will gather June 8-12, 2020, for the 63rd annual Conference on Great Lakes Research hosted by the IISD Experimental Lakes Area. In keeping with the conference theme 2020: Focusing on the Future, we welcome sessions that integrate and connect disciplines and ideas for large lake ecosystems and their watersheds including invasive species, watershed and lake water quality, and climate change. The call includes examples of session topics, but we are not limited to those listed. If you don't see what you want to hear about, take this opportunity to propose new and interesting relevant topics. We welcome and encourage other session topics! We also welcome submissions from groups interested in hosting a workshop on the Monday or Friday of conference week. Read the call for details. Deadline: November 22, 2019.

Plenary speakers include Mike Kelly of The Conservation Fund's Great Lakes Office and Bryan Newland of the Bay Mills Indian Community's Executive Council. A free public meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. features Jane Keon of the Pine River Superfund Citizen Task Force. The event also features the annual meeting of the Great Lakes Beach Association.

Large lakes worldwide share many of the same threats

Algae pollution, plastic pollution and waste run-off plague the Great Lakes here in the United States. But similar problems also threaten large bodies of freshwater worldwide. The seven African Great Lakes and Lake Baikal in Russia, two of the world’s largest systems of freshwater, also face these problems daily.

SOLH19 will be held October 9-11, 2019, at Saginaw Valley State University in Saginaw, Michigan. The conference is co-hosted by the International Association for Great Lakes Research, the Great Lakes Beach Association, and the Council of the Great Lakes Region with generous support from sponsors and local university hosts. SOLH19 is the third in an annual series of State of Lake conferences aimed at bringing together lake-specific research, policy development, management, education, and nonprofit organizations to broaden the discussion and provide diverse interaction among stakeholders.

IAGLR Conference Coordinator RFP

The International Association for Great Lakes Research, Ann Arbor, Michigan, is accepting proposals from qualified and highly motivated contractors or organizations interested in providing services to coordinate the IAGLR Annual conferences to be held June 8-12, 2020 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and in 2021 (location and date are being negotiated). Successful candidates will work with the host Site Chair/Co-Chairs, who are responsible for planning and staging IAGLR conferences, and with the IAGLR Conference Committee Chair who serves as the liaison between the IAGLR Board of Directors, the site Chair/co-Chairs, and their local planning committees.
